My blanket summer reading goal is to chip away at my ridiculous to-read list. But I think, more than that, I’d like (need) to be a slightly more intentional and finally get to a few things I might have had checked out a little too long (sorry, owning libraries!).
- Princesses Behaving Badly: Real Stories from History – without the Fairy-Tale Endings – I love wacky, weird royal families. And books like these are why you want me on your trivia team.
- First Impressions: A Novel of Old Books, Unexpected Love, and Jane Austen – Lovett’s bread and butter seems to be stories about books found in the present that tie back to authors we love. He managed this deftly with The Bookman’s Tale and I’m happy to let him lead me around again.
- Moriarty – This is Horowitz’s take on what happened after the Reichenbach Falls incident and the man who wants to fill role of “the Napoleon of Crime” left vacated by Professor James Moriarty.
- Blue Lily, Lily Blue – This is the third book in the Raven Boys series – about a group of prep school boys and the local girl who are searching for a sleeping Welsh king, who may be hidden beneath the ley lines of their Virginia town. Magical realism isn’t usually my jam, but these are so well-written.
