What I didn’t read.

I just recently signed up for a class that has a required text. Unfortunately, that means I had to return a number of library books unread – gasp! Yes, it pains me.  So I’m going to tell you what they were so that at least one of us will get to read them.  Imagine me cringing with a pained look on my face after I type each one of these potential treasures.

The Gatecrasher, by Madeleine Wickham. 
Madeleine Wickham is Sophie Kinsella, and who better to write a novel about a woman who swindles widowers?

 

The Lovely Bones, by Alice Sebold.
This has been on my “want to read” list for a really, really long time, and apparently, it is supposed to come out as a film this December.  Go ahead, you can tell me what a great book I’m missing.

 

Freak Show, by James St. James.
I have to admit, it was the cover that got me on this one.  Then I found out it was about a teenage “gender obscurist,” and I had to take it home.  Does anyone know how to eliminate the need for sleep?  I am going to get to this one one of these days.

 

Change of Heart, by Jodi Picoult.
Jodi Picoult has so many fans, and I’ve heard so many good recommendations, that I feel like I’ve read her books already.  Unfortunately, I haven’t, and now that I’ve returned this book, I still haven’t.  Perhaps it’s time for a road trip.

 

Compassion in Action, by Ram Dass and Mirabai Bush.
After seeing Fierce Grace, I became interested in learning more about Ram Dass.  This book is both autobiographical and instructive, which can be such an enjoyable combination.

In the Company of Cheerful Ladies, by Alexander McCall Smith.
Yes, I’m hooked on this series, but I’m falling completely behind!  Gentle humor, a gorgeous sense of place, and completely loveable characters, what more could you want?

 

Thank goodness for the new Reading History and Wish List features in the Catalog.  I can just log into my account and revisit these books in an instant!
