Ah, the humble library DVD. What an exciting life you lead! If you’re lucky, you may get to visit two hundred or more homes before you are forced into an honorable (yet scratchy) retirement. But alas, sometimes I have to decommission you after a mere handful of trips out into the world – often you and your kin come home broken, chipped, gnawed, sticky, or smelling of substances that I do not care to identify (especially in a polite public blog such as this).
I come to tell you, my shiny circular friends, that your days are numbered. For as much as we love you (and as much as the VHS purists/Luddites still reject you), I must tell you that there is a new kid in town, one who will make my life a heck of a lot easier and save me a great deal of hand washing.
You see, my spinning subjects, our glorious library is now offering two (two!) downloadable video services, with over one thousand titles that customers can download and watch on their computers (or on their TVs, if they are video card nerds like me).
All of this exciting video stuff – and the slightly less exciting audio stuff – can be accessed from the eCLP home page. Here’s what we’ve got:
OverDrive: Entertainment and Informational collections, featuring action, classics, comedy, science fiction, TV series, documentaries, health & fitness and loads more – some of it wonderfully weird. You’ll need a valid Allegheny County library card (a Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh library card will do it), high speed internet access, and our super special software.
MyLibrary DV: The same basic subjects listed above, but also featuring movies that you’ve actually heard about! You’ll need a valid Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh library card, high speed internet access, and our super special software.
So remember, my little DVD pals, your days are numbered. Now get out there and get downloading, people!
